Representing the 8th generation of the family, 2015 Volkswagen Passat GTE debuted at the Paris Car Show in October 2014. The German newcomer will step into the European market in 2015, featuring two body variants: sedan and estate. The new vehicle is a plug-in hybrid, which mean you can charge its accumulator battery unit from a regular power socket.

The 2015 Volkswagen Passat GTE‘s powertrain employs a petrol internal combustion engine with turbocharger, and an electric motor. The 1.4-liter ICE generates 154 horsepowers, while the electric unit provides for 114 horsepowers. Thus, the total capacity of the hybrid powerplant reaches 215 hp, with 400 Nm torsion torque.

When traveling on electric power only, 2015 Volkswagen Passat GTE develops a maximum speed of 130 km/h. With the ICE engaged, the speed increases to 220 km/h. Acceleration from standstill to 100 km/h takes 8 sec.

The manufacturer claims that the 2015 Volkswagen Passat GTE consumes only 2 liters/100 km in the NEDC. With full tank (50 liters) and fully charged lithium ion batteries, the vehicle can travel up to 1000 km. The electric mode is optimized for a 50 km cruising range on one charge.

Energy replenishing takes approximately 4 hours 15 minutes. The Quick Charger system reduces the charge time to 2.5 hours. The 2015 Volkswagen Passat GTE is optionally equipped with the Area View camera system, the newest Park Assist function, as well as numerous driving safety systems.
